Differential Equation Problem?

Differential Equation Problem?

  • Consider the diff. equation: dy/dx= (1+y)/x, where x does not equal 0. Find the particular solution y=f(x) to the differential equation with the initial condition f(-1) = 1 and state its domain. So I tried to put the equation into y= form and I got y = Ce^(ln x) - 1 How do I find the answer when I can't do ln (-1)? Is my approach wrong?

  • Answer:

    dy/dx= (1+y)/x y = Ce^(ln x) - 1 y=Cx-1 1=-C-1 2=-C -2=C y=-2x-1
