Please help me understand the book: To kill a mockingbird, for a school Essay?
-
I have an assignment for my English class to write an essay on the book: To kill a mockingbird. please help my with ideas that I can write about Layout: Paragraph #1: Describe the perfect father. Paragraph #2: Describe a unique characteristic of your father in a unique setting. Paragraph #3: Is Atticus Finch a good, bad or average dad? Paragraph #4: Is Bob Ewell a good or bad father? Paragraph #5 How difficult is it to be a good father? For the first paragraph my ideas so far are to describe the perfect father as someone who always does their best to be a good father, always knows to do the right thing no matter what the situation, someone who is willing to do just about anything for their kids, wants to always protect their kids but also not be too involved with them , does their best to give their kids everything that they might need, has genuine love and cares about their kids and never stops caring The second paragraph is more of a personal story thing so I don't need to go into that. For the third paragraph my ideas are that Atticus is a good dad but that he could e better. I say that he is a good dad because he knows how to stay calm in tense situations but I think he could be better because when Bob Ewell spit in his face and his children where worried about it he was completely calm and told them not to worry when he maybe should have payed more attention to their concern because Bob Ewell ended up going after his children and trying to kill them later. Also I think that he is a good father because he always tries to do what is right even if it is the less popular opinion like how he chose to defend Tom Robinson in a case where most people where against him. I think it is good that he tries to pass on his knowledge to his kids and teaches them how to read but he also does a good job of letting them make mistakes and learn things for themselves rather than him just telling them always because it is more meaningful that way. He wants the best his kids and he is very modest, he doesn't brag or boast even if he is good at something. an example of this would be how he never teaches his kids how to shoot with a gun and they think less of him because of that but later when the dog Tim Johnson gets loose he kills it with one shot and no one knew that he could do that. I am still working on including the Mrs. Dubose situation and the end of the book with Bob Ewell's death as examples and things to talk about as well if I can For the fourth paragraph I am planning to say that Bob Ewell is not a good father because he doesn't set good examples for his kids and teaches them to be rude like when he spit in Atticus' face out of anger. Also He teaches them to want revenge when he goes after Gem and Scout and tries to kill them. He also isn't very smart and leaves his kids with little motivation for education and no hope for their future, he is never there taking care of them and leaves Mayella to deal with them since she is the oldest. He doesn't make any effort to get a job or earn money for them and even without money he could be a good father: compare to Cunningham family and how they get along without much money. For the fifth paragraph I plan to discuss the high expectations involved with being a father and how you would have to be a good role model and teacher and you can't make as many mistakes because you have someone else depending on you. All I have right now is a basic idea of what I am going to write and some thoughts and ideas but I would really appreciate if someone could help we with ideas or examples that I could use to help support my ideas it is the 3rd and 4rth paragraphs that I need the most help with (they are the ones that relate to characters from the book) but I would also really appreciate maybe an experience or story someone has that relates to the 1st or 5th paragraph Thanks for the help! :)
