How far is Waterloo from Toronto?

What is the easiest affordable way for a student on a trip to commute between Toronto, to Waterloo in Ontario?

  • I am a graduate international student currently studying in Vancouver. I should attend a conference at the end of May in Wilfrid Laurier/ University of Waterloo in Waterloo, ON, and I am planning to stay for a night or two at my cousin's place in Toronto. The conference is 4-7:30pm in Waterloo University and my cousin's place is in Toronto, I want to know how much it takes to commute between these two locations/cities. I have heard it is about 1 hour. What is the cheapest and most affordable way to commute between these two places? P.S. I don't drive. My cousin who lives in Toronto drives, but I am not sure she would be able to give me a ride on that day as it is not a weekend.

Honestly, although it would be nice to stay with your cousin it makes more sense just to stay in Waterloo. By that time there should be student residences open for those attending the conference and I'm sure arrangements can be made. Check with the conference organizers; knowing that many people will be attending from far away and have to fly to Toronto, they will likely be able to give you all the information you need. Wanting to stay with your cousin in 'Toronto' is not much help ... do you really have any idea how big Toronto is? Big. Very big. Perhaps your cousin could arrange to come and see you in Waterloo. Have a great trip!!

Toronto is a very big place (641 square miles and 4,628,883 in population in the city proper and then there are another 2.2 million people in the surrounding area. Unless you know where you are going and how to get around you are going to have a hard time not getting lost. Any public transit from Waterloo will end up downtown and you'd have to know what subway or bus will take you to your cousins place. Unless you can get your cousin to give you specific instructions or meet you someplace I wouldn't attempt going.
