I need advice! I think I fell for a scam.?

Before you start yelling at me for being stupid and deserving it, I truly believed it was legit because a few months ago I signed up to win a free honeymoon cruise at a bridal show. When they called me, they told me I had won the drawing and I didn't think that a scam company would be at a bridal show. Anyway, I admit that it was stupid, but they were smooth talkers and I was excited about the idea of going on a honeymoon. Here's what happened. The name of the cruise line is Caribbean Cruise Line. They called saying that my name had been selected from the drawing from the bridal show, and that I had won a 3 day, all expenses paid cruise to the Bahamas. They started talking about all the fun things it included and they were really nice about it. They asked if I had ever been to the Bahamas and I said I hadn't, and they told me about all these great things. Then, they offered to extend the vacation from a 3 day cruise to a week long vacation including a stay at a resort in Florida. They said that they would do the extended vacation, plus add two round trip airline tickets for $930. My fiance and I were thinking that if we went on this free 3 day cruise, we would have to buy airline tickets anyway since we are responsible for getting ourselves to Florida, where the cruise starts, and then home again afterward. So we decided it was a good deal – the airline tickets and the extra 4 days for $930, and they asked for our information. We gave them our debit card number and they said we were approved and continued talking about the trip. After a few minutes, though, we started to think that maybe we were better off with just the free 3 days. We have a wedding to pay for, after all, and while it seemed like a good deal, we probably shouldn't spend our money on it. At that point I interrupted the man on the phone and told him that, actually, we think we'll just go with the free 3 days. He informed me that the trip was non-refundable. I said how could that be we haven't even finished our phone conversation yet, and he insisted that there was nothing I could do. No refunds. Reluctantly, we went along with finishing the details. Afterward, we thought that maybe we had made a poor choice in paying for the extended vacation, but you only get one honeymoon and it would be fun. A few hours later, a friend of mine informed me that she had won a very similar cruise for her honeymoon two years earlier and that it had turned out to be a complete scam. Worried, I started checking online and the basic consensus is that the Caribbean Cruise Line Free Bahama Cruise is in fact a scam. I read that Florida law states that: "--It shall be unlawful for any seller of travel or assignee: (1) To fail or refuse to honor a purchaser's vacation certificate request to cancel if such request is made: (a) Within 30 days from the date of purchase or receipt of the vacation certificate, whichever occurs later." Now, this all just happened today so I am well within the 30 days, but people online seem to be having a very difficult time getting a refund, even after mentioning the law. My question is first, looking online it seems the transaction hasn't gone through yet. Can I go to my bank tomorrow and cancel the debit card so that they can't take out the money, and then call and try for a refund? Will the Caribbean Cruise Line be able to do anything if the debit card is cancelled before they get the money out? Will they be able to send collections after us? second, any advice on how to talk to these people tomorrow when I call for a refund? I am anticipating that it is not going to be easy, and I sometimes have a hard time arguing with people. Yes, I can be a pushover. Probably what got me into this mess in the first place. third, any other advice on how to deal with this situation? other than, 'don't be so stupid next time'? believe me, I'm regretting this enough already. You don't need to remind me that I made a mistake. Thanks to anyone who is helpful! (also, I wasn't sure what category to put this in. sorry!)

Answer:
If they don't process the refund, contact your bank and ask to speak to their fraud department, and ask to reverse the charge to your card.

Ah, that is really crappy! I would try to go to the bank and maybe have them reject that transaction? If you think it's a scam I would move all of the money from your checking account into another one because If they really are criminals then they won't just take the 930 dollars. When you call the company just explain to them that you really can't afford the extra money and you really just want the 3 day cruise. Also if they were legitimate you probably should have got a confirmation code or something similar? Maybe its just a 930 lesson of life. I really can't call you stupid because I mean who wouldn't want a 3 day cruise! Good luck!

"When it's too good to be true, it probably is." It's what the authorities always remind everybody about suspicious deals. And I'm afraid, yours was one of such. There's been a lot of similar scams being reported at http://www.callercenter.com. Unfortunately, not a lot of these scam artists get caught and thrown to jail. I suggest you contact your bank as soon as possible to cancel the charge. However, if the charge is pending, you will have to wait until it is completed before you can file for a dispute. You can also contact the bridal company directly and inquire about the cruise. If you did win something, they're surely have that on their records.
