What is university like?

What is life like at University College Birmingham?

  • I'd really like someone to clear the air a little bit for me, even though, i have a terrible feeling that no one will! I've been given an unconditional offer from UCB, and i really want to go to university. I currently work full time, and have done since i left college in september 2011. But i have since realised that i would like to study something i'm passionate about, and in honesty, experience the three years that everyone who has been to university, says were the best of their life. My A levels are not fantastic, and i have only managed to get into UCB. I really do like their course, i think i'd prefer the course over other universities, however, as i said, i'd like to have the experience of exploring a new city, meeting new people, and even though i intend fully to commit to my course and receive a great result, i want to spend three years going out and drinking every day of the week. I have spoken to a few friends of friends who went to UCB who have all told me that yes, the people there are like students at any university and the nightlife is just as good as you would expect but for some reason i just can't bring myself to believe it. It probably sounds a very trivial thing to speculate on, you only get one chance to do this and i want to be able to look back at the end of it and realise that i spent three years in complete madness and only spent half of my time sober. There never seems to be any talk of the UCB freshers, and even though at the open day they said people are always going out on the town and the student guild website says that too, but there just never seems to be any talk of it or pictures or anything. Basically, this is a long winded way of saying, will i have the party life style of a student, when studying at UCB? Answers from people that have studied there would be massively appreciated, but answers from anyone that could tell me would also be great. Thanks!
