Civic loses power in 3rd gear?

Audi a3 loss of power in 2nd and 3rd gear?

  • Hi All. I've recently purchased an Audi A3 1.6SE 2004 and am experiencing an occasional loss of power, usually under load. For example if I change down to 2nd to take a corner the car doesn't want to accelerate and sticks on 2000rpm. If I dip the clutch & rev it is okay. I've had it plugged in at a local garage and whilst no engine management light was showing there was a fault showing with crankshaft position sensor. I've changed this and it's no different - apart from me being £40 worse off! I've tried unplugging the MAF sensor and it makes no difference either. Running out of ideas now! I'd be grateful for some help please.

The only reference I can find to someone who has had this problem and got a 100% guaranteed fix has replaced his 'engine speed sensor'. Now, I can't ascertain whether he means the G28 crankshaft position sensor (by the oil filter) http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd20/Crasher1964/06A906433Lsensor.jpg Or the G40 camshaft position sensor (between the camshafts) ; http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd20/Crasher1964/06A905161B.jpg It's also been suggested that there may be a timing issue resulting from a recent ca belt replacement or badly adjusted belt tension. Let me know.

were the codes cleared and checked again after the crank sensor was changed? I once changed the crank sensor on my brother's 3.0 TiD saab and had the same codes thrown after because I didn't notice the real problem was a freyed cable to the sensor. Should have been a 50p job, whoops.

You need to understand a few things about AUDI cars, or any car for that matter. The HEART of your fuel injection system is the Throttle body and IDLE AIR CONTROL alve, whcih on many AUdi engines is one unit. Your THROTTLE BODY is easily cleaned up with Amsoil Foaming Cleaner, and Gum-out spray. THis unit is over $700 American to replace. Unpluggin your MAF sensor was a very BAD idea, s your engine may now require re calibration on a genuine audi V.A.G> computer to get things right again!!! Take a few poolunds o your local oil change center and have your THROTTLE BODY cleaned up to showroom, Also, realize th AUdi engines require very special engine oils that are synthetic and meet the higher VW/Audi specification numbers 502/505. Other oils will simply RUIN the expensive engine timing gear, and clog up your Turbo (if you have one) and rot your crankcase ventilaion system. Check that your spark plugs are the newest IRIDIUM type from either Bosch or Nippon Denso. THese refined tuningg instruments fire fuel on the chemical level, providing more economy, and better torque and economy. PLEASE read your manual about the proper oil types. In your country, you can get TOTAL ENERGY OIL, and probably Pentosin. KEEP your throttle body CLEAN!!! IF this does NOT remove your check engine light, you will have to get it loked at by a VW/AUDI dealership. GOOD LUCK!!
