Can I convert my foreign international driving license into an indian driving license?

I have a European drive license and I got also an international drive license, but I want to get an Indian driving licence. I am living in India and I am married with an Indian national. Is it possible to obtain a driving license in India with my current foreign driving license? Thanks everybody

Answer:
Your International Driving Permit (not license) is merely a translation of your current valid license into several languages to make it easier when you travel. As a tourist you can drive with your valid license. If you become a resident of India you will have to get the correct license.

You may use your European drivers license as (partial) help in getting an Indian license. An International driving permit means nothing. it is only a permit (not a license) and is only a translation of your regular drivers license. IDPs are never required, are mostly worthless and a waste of money.
