(anxiety disorder) I feel like such a loser :'( how can I stop feeling this way?
-
So I've been struggling with social anxiety disorder for years and its gotten so severe that I had to stop taking classes at colege, I cant handle a job right now and I'm basically only doing things that I can handle doing everyday and its very minimal. So from an outside prospective, it really looks like I'm doing NOTHING; ppl ask me all the time "what do you DO all day long?" and I just feel so worthless, defective and like a loser cause I'm young and should be in college and doing things........I've never felt so horrible about myself, what can I do? (and please no negative comments, I really dont think I could take that right now)

Answer:
You need to talk to someone about this but not just anyone. Talk to a psychologist. If you are still enrolled in school, talk to one there. Or get information about psychologists near you that do the work for a low price. They can help you dig deep and tell you why you feel that way and what you can do about it. from personal experience, I've learned that sometimes people tell you the wrong information (even though they may have good intentions) I'd rather talk to someone who knows what they are talking about and actually learned about anxiety disorders. I get a lot of anxiety and it is not fun! i try to do deep breathing and relaxation hope you feel better!

Have you talked to an actual therapist/psychologist? A good one can help you put things in perspective.

By "negative," I think you mean people saying that there's nothing wrong except that you don't want to work. I'm not going to say that, but I am going to tell you what a famous psychiatrist said, which is that people with anxiety and depression tend to underestimate what they can do and use the word "can't" inappropriately. This psychiatrist did not say that the solution to the problem is just telling somebody to get up and go outside, or to resume all normal activities by the end of the day. He developed a program for teaching people to resume their normal activities. People have been using it since the late 1930s. You can find out about it by going to Abraham Low Self Help Systems. It tells about Recovery International, which distributes literature and has local and electronic meetings. Of course, it seems that seeing a therapist would also be a good idea. Anxiety is very treatable.
