Where is Sparta?

Where did sparta originate from?

• I am doing a report on ancient sparta but i don't know where they are from. For example the Minoans possibly came from Asia.So if any one can find some info from where they came from that would be great! oh and if you can tell me a website where i can find that info that would be even greater!!!

  The Spartans came from the 'Dorian invasions' of about 1200BC. Perhaps 'migration' is a better word, but around that time (1250BC-1200BC) the whole ancient world was upset by invasions/ migrations of people (this had happened before and after). In Greece these invaders or migrating people were called 'Dorians', all that's known is that they were Indo-European people (like the Greeks were already) who came from the north northeast of Greece. Highly war like, they finished off the prior Greek civilization (the Mycenaeans) and settled parts of Greece, especially the southern/ eastern Peloponnese (the home of Sparta). they mixed in with the prior population and eventually after the Greek 'Dark Ages' 1200-800BC helped make Greek civilization. In Sparta however the Dorians didn't mix in with the local population, instead they enslaved it, and called them the 'helots' (peasant slaves) that worked for the Dorians, who became the Spartans (from the name of their city). The Indo-European's originally came from the area between the Black and Caspian seas, north of the Caucuses mountains (Caucasians) they migrated to eastern Europe then spread throughout most of Europe 3000BC-2000BC helping to make most European populations. The Dorians are thought to be Indo-Europeans living 1200'sBC somewhere around today's Ukraine/ East Europe who moved down into Greece like other Indo-Europeans had done 1000 years before.
