Start playing Football for the first time in my senior year of high school?
-
A few facts about me: Well built. I have a very football player-ish body if I could say the least. 6ft 5in 220lbs really fast runner, and really strong. Just very powerful all around. senior next year Never played football before (in fact, I have no idea even how to play). Now, don't judge me just because I do not know how to play football and want to try out next year. I bought the books, i'm watching games, i'm studying, i'm practicing and all. But I need some opinions on a few things. 1. Is it stupid to even try out? Considering next year will be my senior year and so far I know nothing about football? 2. Give me some things I need to know about playing football in high school. What's it like? Do you think I would be able to fit in alright? Based on my specs, what position, or what ever yo call it, would I be good at? I really want to play, it sounds fun, and looks like a great way to meet new people. But I don't know if i'd fit in starting off my senior year. Also, one last question, what is practice like. What do you do during it? Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot about football, but it's only because, well, I am.

I know this may sound CRAZY, but PLEASE consider trying out for a Quarterback position. You have the IDEAL structure for a football player. Cam Newton (won a Heisman Trophy senior yr in college & was the 1st round draft pick in the 2011 draft) is 6'5" & 238lbs. [If you’re not sure who Cam Newton is, check him out. He went to Auburn University & plays for the Carolina Panthers. He broke records this season, so follow him!] Now, he is a rare case (being bigger than the average QB), so also think about Linebacker or Tight End positions, as well. Those positions are known for larger guys. Since you can run fast, that is definitely a huge plus!! Practice is intense. Be prepared to sweat. Yet, it is VERY educational. Everything you want to learn about football, you will learn in practice--that's why it's such a necessity. Try to learn the basics now & practice will give you the specs. Also if you have the right coaches, they’ll teach you the right drills that will help you develop the skills you need and apply them during the game. I definitely think you should try out. Life’s too short to have any regrets, so why not? :) I think the team could find you very valuable, & I KNOW that you would most definitely fit in perfectly. DEFINITELY Continue to study. As you’re reading books, also look at “How to coach football” books. They can give you another (& greater) perspective on the game. I wish you the best of luck!!!!!! & Hopes this helps! :)

Barry Sanders is the greatest runningback to ever play in the NFL. He didn't play the runningback position until his 4th game of his senior year and got 20+ scholarships. If you want to play and are motivated, do it. Talk to your coach and watch games to learn.

to answer question one: No, it's not stupid, you have a perfect physical makeup to play multiple positions on the field, and could be an athletic monster. Don't expect to make it to a college football team on a scholarship though, as scouts mostly focus on a player's junior year, and the players will have already been recruited by senior year, even though they haven't officially decided on which college to attend, they already have offers and a short list. But you can be a great high school player and make a college team as a walk on if you play well. question two: It's tough, real tough. Lot's of physical challenges, not to mention getting along with your teammates, especially when you may be competing with them for a spot on the team. usually, conditioning and practice starts during summer vacation, so you would need to go then to make the coach like you. based on your specs, I'd say you would be a good fit as a TE, or a tight end on offense, and as a DE, or defensive end of defense. You fit as a TE because your height and speed will allow you to make catches over the middle, and your size will make you difficult to tackle. Your weight and strength will also help you as a blocker, since blocking and pass catching are a TE's biggest roles. As for DE, your strength and speed will help you get around the edge of the blockers and get to the QB for a sack. You would work at either position

1. I highly encourage you to join your high school football team this upcoming season. It will still not (yet) be too late for you to start playing football. 2. Based on your height and weight, as well as your speed, strength, and power, I believe that the best fit for you is at middle linebacker. You have the ideal size for a high school senior middle linebacker. Keep in mind, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your senior year of high school. If you perform very well in football this upcoming season, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program. 3. High school football practice is the ultimate test of strength and conditioning, consisting of very many lifting and running drills.
