What is the best way to learn Korean?

  • I want to learn Korean as a second language. I want to learn because i love the culture, music, shows, books, etc. At first i wanted to learn japanese but i didnt realize that it was so difficult (i learned it was difficult by different internet sources), so i thought korean was probably second best- i love korean things anyway. I have heard korean is one of the easier asian languages. Me and my younger sister are going to learn it so we may speak together and we just so happen to both love korea! I dont know any other languages and my native tongue is english. I have a lot of time to learn a new language so dont worry about time. Hmmmmm.... well, i was leaning more towards software to learn korean (i know i cant learn a language fluently just by software and programs), books seem more difficult to work with. I am a 14 year old, 7th grader but i am very smart and learn well. My goal is to, eventually, become fluent in Korean. It would be very much appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction to getting started in a new language. Thank You!

Hi! I'm trying to learn Korean too! Believe me, Korean probably is one of the hardest language to learn out there for English speakers. But, compared to other Asian languages, it is the easiest. It's because its writing system is easier than the roman alphabet. People with no experience at all in Korean learn how to read in about a day. But the grammar is really different from English. For instance, when building a sentence, you have to specify which is the topic, the subject, etc... by using marking particles, something that doesn't even exist in English. And the pronunciation can be hard for one who hasn't been accustomed to speak in other languages. I wouldn't like learning in a book. You don't have a hint of the correct pronunciation and they're often just a collection of phrase books. I prefer to learn through online video or audio courses with a structured curriculum and native Korean speakers. It is better to learn from the basics, understand the grammar, learn vocabulary and expressions. Then you could practice listening by watching Pororo at first and then to Super Junior's complicated lyrics later! Good luck! PS I like koreanclass101.com and talktomeinkorean.com
