How does the inheritance work?

How does blood inheritance work?

  • I recently found out that my blood type is O+. What confuses me is that my father is B type and my mother is AB. How did i end up getting O type? Does my parents have some explaining to do? Hmm..

  • Answer:

ABO blood groups are controlled by the gene 'I'. The plasma membrane of red blood cells has sugar polymers that protrude from its surface and the kind of sugar is controlled by the gene.the gene 'I' has 3 alleles,I^A,I^B,i.Here I^A & I^B hows diffent kind of sugr whereas i allele doesnt shows any. now your parents are having blood group AB(mother) & B(father). So the possible blood alleles of your parents are- mother- I^A & I^B father - I^B & i when having a dihybrid cross of this two alleles the possible blood groups are- I^A I^B allele giving blood group AB OR I^A i alleles giving blood group A OR I^B i alleles giving blood group B. SO CAN BE CONCLUDED THAT YOUR POSSIBLE BLOOD GROUPS WOULD BE - AB , A & B So from above proff we can conclude that parents having blood group AB & B can't have a child of blood group of O (alleles i i). I understand how you feel after realising that you are not a genetic offspring (child) of your parents... but i would suggest you not to talk about this to your parents.because i think that talking about this would rather mess things up.i don't think that you are affected by this stuff anyway... and some truths are better to be kept as a secrets.because bitter truth always hurts... and i guess one or the other day, believe me your parents would sort out the truth with you... but till then keeping quit would be a better option... {sry didn't wanted to be personal, but jst a suggestion... :) } HOPE THIS HELPS...

Normally that wouldn't be possible. A person with an AB blood type has an A allele (form of a gene) and a B allele. So you either get an A or a B from your mother. To have an O blood type you must have two O alleles, because either A or B is dominant to an O allele, that means that the result is determined by A/B and not O. But that would not be possible since you certainly got an A or B allele from your mother. Are you sure your mother has an AB blood type?

Yes. O is impossible with B and AB parents.
