Are there any traditional Catholic churches in San Francisco?
-
I moved to San Francisco a little over a year ago and still have not been able to find a LEGIT Catholic Church. The first 8 months I bounced around from parish to parish being dissatisfied with the San Franciscan propensity for crappy, irreverent, secularized liturgical music and gross liturgical abuses (I mean people bring their dogs inside the church, the priests request for all the children to come circle around the altar, etc.). Finally I found a parish that has a traditional liturgy, celebrates with Gregorian Chant, sacred polyphony, renaissance motets, etc. uses Latin in the liturgy, and the people don't act like they're at a Kumbaya bonfire in Santa Cruz. I've been here for a couple months now (St. Dominic's on Bush St.), but am now saddened to find out that the church only has a traditional veneer. They call themselves "inclusive", and we all know what that's code for: They celebrate the homosexual lifestyle and abortion. Aren't there ANY Catholic churches that are TRULY Catholic in both word and deed in San Francisco?

Bob Hamm Praises Lord
How can Bob make such a statement when we Catholics accept Christ as our Lord and Savior? That makes us saved...in his book:) I think I read a verse that says, "Do not judge lest you be judged." Anyway, having sinful people IN Church is great, that's where they SHOULD be! So long they aren't receiving the sacraments. Good luck to you though, I'd help you out but I live in Texas, lol.

I tried to find some for you, this is what others said: "St. Patrick's by Union Square is nice. My wife goes there on week days before work. St. Peter and Paul in North Beach is also good given the heavy Italian influence in the area. I went to St. Monica's in the Richmond district (on Geary) for years which was pretty traditional." "Old St. Mary's on the edge of Chinatown" You may wish to try one of the other rites in Catholicism, this is the Byzantine Church, which is usually very traditional: http://www.byzantinecatholic.org/AboutUs/OLFMission.html Here's a link for the Latin Mass Directory: http://www.latinliturgy.com/id6.htm If you don't mind the drive, another recommends Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara, CA or Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Santa Clara, CA (link for them: http://www.institute-christ-king.org/santaclara/) I hope this helps you out
