What are support activities?

Should the United States continue to participate in and support the United Nations and its many activities?

  • Should the United States continue to participate in and support the United Nations and its many activities, despite the fact that the UN often frustrates the full and speedy implementation of US foreign policy initiatives?

  • Answer:

The United States needs to step up, as a matter of fact. As of right now we're one of two nations that hasn't ratified CEDAW (the other being Somalia) and one of two that hasn't ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child (the other being Saudi Arabia). Not a good international human rights track record. We prefer to act unilaterally rather than with the support of other nations and it's ruining our credibility in the international realm. Also, the US does far more to delay UN activities than the UN does to frustrate the US. I love America, but our foreign policy's more than a little wonky.
