What exactly is the job of a wildlife conservationist?

Can I work saving wildlife animals with a major in geography and a minor in criminology?

• I currently am a freshmen soon to be sophomore at Eastern Illinois University and just recently switched my major from psychology to geography but kept my minor to criminology. since I was younger my passion has been animals and wanting to rescue them. I gave it alot of thought and one of the reasons I switched my major to geography was because it deals with nature and out doors scene. I am not sure though if majoring in geography will help me become an environmental conservationist or something along those lines like dealing with saving wildlife from poachers or wildlife animal rescuer. would geography help me get to anything similar? im looking for suggestions and any help possible so I can get to the right path in college to achieve my dream job. please help!! thanks:)

  Geography is not going to get you a job working with wildlife. You need to major in biology, zoology, environmental science, wildlife biology or similar. Check out what other majors your school offers that might help you. Besides a degree you will need hands on experience..look into internships and volunteer work with zoos, wildlife rehabs, sanctuaries, or with a government agency such as US Fish and Wildlife or US Fish and Game.
