What is the best bass amp for me?

• I am in a 5 set band and we play indie,rock,punk etc. We are starting to do gigs regular and I'm thinking of getting a new bass amp. My current rig is a Marshall mb150 and a fender jazz bass. My budget after I save up should be around 500. I look on website and eBay but there really high prices. The amps I would like is either; trace elliot, ampeg,hartke. So is the any make that would be suitable, and where is the best place to get one. I don't mind second hand.

  Some sort of Ampeg amp, I think they're a punk favourite and are suitable for other styles, of course. Paul Simonon, Dee Dee Ramone and (I think) Peter Hook have used Ampeg. As for where to buy... if you're in the U.K., have a look on Gumtree, if you're in the U.S. keep surveying eBay, it's updated all the time. Or alternatively you could have a look around at some local music shops or ask a bassist friend if they're willing to sell a spare amp, 500 should be plenty enough for a very good amp so as long as you're on the lookout both online and in shops, something should come your way. P.S. My advice is to go preowned and if you're buying it off a friend ask to try it out first.
