Does bad eyesight increase your chance of getting other eye diseases later on in life?

I have terrible eyesight....my eye doc said I would have higher chances of getting eye diseases later on in life. he said it was fairly obvious that i would since i had such bad eyesight. is this true?

Yes, it is. But it depends how many dioptres you have. If you have less than -3, no risks. If you have between -3 and -6, there are more risks having glaucoma lately, if its more than -6, which is considered as a high myopia, there are more risks that a retina will be detached, since the retina becomes thiner, the more myopia a person has, the retina stetches more.
