Why do we have different colored eyes?

  • why is our Iris colored, other than it looks beautiful whats the point of it? thanks

  • Answer:

The eye has a colorful iris, your genetics of course determine the eye color, melanin's (which is a dye\pigment) concentration in the eye's iris give the eye it's color. Eye color is inherited and is influenced by more than one gene. Three major genes in humans determine the eye color, the iris in blue eyes is made out of two layers, one layer (the back layer) is a very dark brown, and the front layer is a semi-transparent, you see it as blue because it's like a a visual deception where you see the dark layer through the semi-transparent layer making it look like as if it's blue, there is no blue dye in the eye. Other colorful eyes are made out of three layers, one in the far back which is a dark brown, then a middle one which is semi-transparent and the front layer which contains the colorful dye, of course the eye color is determined by the amount of dye in the front layer, if it's not dense then the eye would be light-colored such as green or amber, if it's very dense then the eye would appear to be brown or almost black. Genes are what make your eye colorful just as I stated, prevail genes symboled by the capital letter (B) give the human eye the third layer which makes the eye either amber, green, brown, gray and hazel. If you have recessive genes symboled by the small letter (b) then your eye color is blue. There are only three chances for the human eye color, which are BB meaning that they are pure, and means that they contain the dominant gene only, meaning that all your children will have colorful eyes (none will have blue), Bb meaning that your eyes will be colorful but not pure because you have the recessive gene, and means that your children might have the chance for blue eyes depending on who you marry of course, bb meaning that they are pure blue. The most common eye color is Brown and the rarest is green.. EXAMPLE: If your genes are BB and you marry a man with Bb in his genes then you will have children who have colored eyes BB(pure color) and Bb(mixed gene), because they have the dominant gene which they inherited from you. If your genes are Bb and you marry a man with Bb in his genes you will have children who have colorful and blue eyes because their genes will be BB(pure color) - Bb(mixed gene) and bb(pure blue).
