What is the purpose of these questions during the job interview?

  • why do they ask the following questions during a job interview. 1- Are you married or living together ? 2- Do you have kids ? 3- How much did my last job paid ? 4- How much do i want to earn ? (1) what should i answer if i am not married but my girlfriend only comes to live with me during the weekends, because she works in a hotel and they have a room where workers could use to take a nap or sleep the night due to late hours. (no bus ride home) (2) I don't have any kids, but why do they need to know if i have any ? is it to know if my kids needs would take up my time of work ? but than again will i earn more if i need to take care of them ? (3) Why do they need to know about how much i earn ? does that shows how much my talents are worth ? (4) This question is the most frustrating to me. How can i write down, how much i want to earn ? anyone would want to earn the highest amount possible, so what should i put down on there $1.000.000 ? lol, or should i put down the minimum that i want to earn ? I would like to know what to say without lying on my job interview ?

    The honest answers is they don't need to know the first three however the last two are to make sure they can afford you.

In the U.S., the first two questions are illegal. Politely decline to answer mentioning that there are no family circumstances that would interfere with your job duties. The reasoning for the last two is to get you to name a ballpark figure for a salary.
