Not getting the job based on a writing sample?

  • I got an email last week from a woman i had an interview with 2 months ago and didnt get the job. Her colleague has a position she thought i'd be a good fit for. Long story short, I had a 40 minute conversation with this man, he invited me in for an interview, i met with 4 other people. He said i will likely be coming on board. He asked for my references and writing samples. I sent them the next day (thursday). I know for a fact that two of my references were contacted and they both gave me a good one. On Easter Sunday the hiring manager contacted me again asking me to do another writing sample that pertains to what i'd be doing in that role in their dept. I did it....is this a normal request? i felt somwhat weird since i dont work in the dept, havent gotten a feel for it...I emailed him yesterday with what he requested, havent heard back. I just hope he doesnt hate what i wrote and i dont get the job now...opinions?

    employers think nothing of wasting others time. they often schedule multiple interviews. they're looking for the perfect person even though it doesn't always happen.

Sorry but you are going through the same thing as everyone else that has ever applied for a job. Employers know that they are the one holding all the cards and they will decide how fast they get back to a person. Unfortunately most employers don't demonstrate the general good manners of telling people when they haven't gotten the job so really it's just a waiting game for you. You will either hear something from them later than you expect (employers always keep you waiting a little longer than you would prefer) or nothing at all. And it might not be down to your writing sample- they could have misplaced it the first time- there are countless reasons they may not choose a certain person. Hope you get it though :) :)
