Is there a blue diode in the PS2 (the older one?

My PS2 will not work with one of my fav. games. What am i to do?

  • My PS2 is an old hand-me-down from one of my mom's friends. Anyways I found out one day that it doesn't like my Lego Star Wars game, (don't judge me), and I've cleaned the disc and everything. It will read it as a PS2 game because when I put it in, it will act like it is gonna work, but it will go to the browser and show me two memory cards and a PS2 game, every time I press the PS2 game, it will black out like normal, make a funny noise, and take me back to the one screen. It will also happen to my GTA III. Any suggestions besides switching to the PS3. I no have enough $$$ to pay for one and I really dn't need it.

    Try cleaning the DVD, you could also clean the lens in the PS2's DVD drive if you know how. (don't do it with it plugged in because of the laser). If the DVD itself is fine then you could get another PS2 cheaply, I got mine for £20. If you do buy a PS3 then bear in mind that although certain models of the older (fat) PS3 can play PS2 games the newer slim model can't. Is your PC any good? If so then you could install PCSX2 which is a Playstation 2 emulator. Not only might your games look better with a PC graphics card but your computer's DVD drive will probably have more chance of reading the DVD than your PS2's ancient drive.

Not quite sure what the problem is - hoping someone else may be able to identify it for you. Just wanted to remind you that even if you do get a PS3, the new PS3s will not play PS2 games. The backwards compatibility was removed when they stopped manufacturing the 60GB FAT versions.

My solution is this: 1. Try games other than GTA III and Lego Star Wars to see if the PS2 is working ok. 2. Try the two games on another PS2 to see if it is the games that are the problem. If you find that the games are the problem, get new copies. If you find that the PS2 is the problem, repair it, get another PS2 or get a really old PS3 that can run PS2 games.
