Is there a way to mentally block pain?

I'm going mad after an arthroscopy on my right knee just 10 days ago... again or just pain?

  • After having a locked joint two Sundays ago I couldn't move another step. I knew exactly what it was as I had been operated on 6 years before (floating cartilage in the knee / osteochondritis dissecans – an arthroscopy). The doctor decided to operate on me very quickly (30 March) and did another arthroscopy, clearing the fragments and cutting my lateral minuscus away a bit. The revalidation went really well, and I was allowed to do everything. It felt much better than after my first operation even, as if I had a new knee. Yesterday I was driving and suddenly, when reaching for the brake pedal, that dreadful pain started again: the feeling of something getting in the way. I literally went mad and went walking straight away to see if there was full block on my knee again. But I could walk fine really, there was just the pain and the feeling of something being in the way. I felt again and it was gone. This morning, when seated, the same pain reocurred. I think there is another fragment loose again even though I followed the instructions completely for revalidation. I don't dare walking now anymore because I'm really afraid. The operation was just at the fortunate time because I have a trip planned starting the 6th of May, but now I'm down, depressed, anxious and mad that my dreamtrip will not go ahead. I somehow hope it's maybe some pain, but that feeling of something getting in the way is just all too familiar. Or could it be just pain? I can (still) walk quite normally and stretch the leg. No real swelling either.

  • Answer:

it is probably just pain... more than likely you now have arthritis in that knee... i know i have had 10 operations on my knees and have been dealing with arthritic pain in them since i was 16 years old.
