Tips on being a pro Rugby Union Player and how to get noticed by big teams?

  • Hi, my name is Filipe Lazarevic, I'm 15, turning 16 on November 26th, also I'm half Portuguese & half Serbian. It's already the end of the season for my team & we finished third (losing only to the two favorites, although one of the teams cheated by putting their A team on to play us... But whatever.) I've been playing rugby for 5 years & I started out playing for Crawley R.F.C & got praise & awards such as: Crawley R.F.C. Under 10's Player Of The Year: 2006/2007. Crawley R.F.C. Under 11's Most Improved Player: 2007/2008. Crawley R.F.C. Under 12's Most Improved Player: 2008/2009. Crawley R.F.C. Under 13's Player Of The Year: 2009/2010. Crawley R.F.C. Under 14's Player Of The Year: 2010/2011. Crawley R.F.C. Under 14's Tour Best Player: 2011. But I knew I wasn't going to prosper with this team because I didn't get along with most of the players & they weren't good, not gloating but I had to pick up the slack in our games (One other reason I wanted to move teams.) & they didn't have the best coach so the training was bad & the disciplined was horrid, so I told my dad that was the last year I wanted to play for them and my dad knew I didn't like the team so he expected I wanted to move teams. So the next season started & I was officially an Old Reigatian player (Because they were the last team I played against and they were the team that stood out for their teamwork & discipline) and for my first year I learnt more from this team than the last. Mid way through the season the Surrey coach saw one of our games & told one of my coaches that I'm a good player just some things to improve on then I might be able to join the Surrey team. I've been mentioned in the Surrey Mirror e.g. http://www.thisissurreytoday.co.uk/Jardine-scores-tries-win/story-14019802-detail/story.html or http://www.thisissurreytoday.co.uk/Reigatians-consolidate-place/story-15599322-detail/story.html Now me as a player: I'm one of the tallest in the team & I am able to play any position which is one of my good qualities, (But I prefer to play Number 8) another good quality and probably my best is my aggressivity, I'm very good at kicking, conversions & drop kicks, lastly I'm pretty quick and really good at making try saving tackles as well as normal tackles. What I really want you guys to help or give tips on how to get noticed by big pro teams. Thanks. =)

go and play rugby league the players are not as stuffy,and the coaching staff will tell you if they think you make it,and if you make it in league you will probably do well at a higher level at union

Try getting into a School Of Rugby team, as it would be a better chance of getting scouted.

your teammates didn't like you cause your probly a douch and obviously up yourself, you won't fit in any team

Try and get into an SOR (School of rugby) squad. These sqauds are linked to pro teams. for example i play for the leicester SOR and am currently doing a leicester tigers trial. Sounds like your a good player. try and stand out from the rest of your team. If your the best player in your year in school of for club, you could get selected for the SOR trials. Maybe try and build up some muscle, go for runs to build your stamina. through a ball around with your freinds. the more you practise the more you improve!
