I'm Home-Schooled and I need some help?
-
First off, I'm sorry this is so long, but if you could take the time to read I would be very great full. I've been home-schooled my whole life, and I was OK with it until my freshman year. Other kids would always be like "Hey where do you go to school?" or "Why don't you go to a public school?". It bugged me a little, because they always seemed to treat me kind of different just because I was home-schooled. However, I never complained about being home-schooled to my parents. I don't like bitching about stuff around people, it just seems weak so I didn't. Just a quick FYI I'm a sophomore right now. Anyways, when my sophomore year started, things kind of started to go downhill from there. I was the only sibling left at home, and I felt kind of alone. I didn't really have many friends which made things even worse. I would become depressed at times, and then happy again, and the cycle just kept repeating itself. I thought even more about going to school, and how I was missing out on so much, because I wasn't going. Like I said before I never complained about any of this to anyone, but my parents eventually started to see what was going on. About a month ago they asked if I would like to go to school next year. I wasn't sure at the time so I just said no. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and I just don't know what to do. This school year is coming to an end, and when school starts again, I will be a junior. I want to go, but yet I don't. Reasons why I want to go: 1. I'm really alone and have no friends. 2. I feel like I'm missing out on so much by being home-schooled. 3. People always told me that high school was the best time of your life so enjoy it. Well, to be honest, my experience has been pretty shitty so far. I don't want to waste another two years being home-schooled and end up regretting not going. Reasons I don't want to go: 1. I'm afraid that if I did go, I'd get teased and bullied, because I was previously home-schooled. 2. I get good grades in all the subjects I take now (Geometry, Biology, Spanish, etc...), but I have this weird feeling that my grades would drop significantly once I went to school. 3. I wouldn't know anyone, and I am pretty shy so that wouldn't make things any easier. Honestly, I don't know what to do. I don't want to waste another two years at home, but yet I don't want to be bullied or anything like that. I really don't have anyone I can talk to about this, and it's just been bugging me lately. Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated, because I'm just so lost and confused on what to do right now.

Answer:
1 You don't need to attend public school to have friends. Get out of the house, take up a hobby, etc. 2 Such as what? 3 I feel very sorry for the people who believe that the 4 years of high school are the best years of their lives. I mean you have 60 or so more years after highschool to live. How do these people enjoy live if all the good year are behind them? LOL. The only ones Ive ever know to believe such BS are the spoiled prom kings and queens who realize that is real life you must do work for what you get instead of having mommy and daddy provide it for you.

1. I'm really alone and have no friends. > What makes you think you'll have friends at school? Many don't. And many homeschoolers go out and get involved and make friends. 2. I feel like I'm missing out on so much by being home-schooled. > And schooled kids miss out on the opportunity to homeschool. And people who live in the country miss out on living in the city; and people who live in the city miss out on living in the country. 3. People always told me that high school was the best time of your life so enjoy it. Well, to be honest, my experience has been pretty shitty so far. I don't want to waste another two years being home-schooled and end up regretting not going. > there are people who commit suicide to get out of going to school. And there are people who spend their whole adult lives suffering from the scars and damage done to them in school. 1. I'm afraid that if I did go, I'd get teased and bullied, because I was previously home-schooled. > you might; but really, unless it borders on harrassment and you have to call the police, why give any fuel to that fire? You can't live life being afraid someone else is going to act mean toward you, right? 2. I get good grades in all the subjects I take now (Geometry, Biology, Spanish, etc...), but I have this weird feeling that my grades would drop significantly once I went to school. >Maybe it will take some time to transition; maybe you'll be far ahead of your peers. You won't know until you try. Don't let what might be a challenge deter you. 3. I wouldn't know anyone, and I am pretty shy so that wouldn't make things any easier. >You will never know until you try. It's hard being shy but you can take the opportunity to try and push yourself out of your shell a little bit. You only have 2 years left to see if this experience is something that would be a success or disaster. No one can promise you it will be wonderful or horrible.

Go to public school! I am still home schooled and I hate it, I am a senior. I luckily got to join a home schooling program that lets me play sports with the public schools which help me get out and meet new people. But I definitely think that I would have had much more fun going to public school. If anything you should try and find a home schooling program like I did, and pick something up.

I started homeschooling in the 10th grade. There's nothing wrong with being home schooled. If your afraid of being bullied then don't go. I had a hard time accepting being home schooled too. I even went back to school for a while because it was hard adjusting with staying home all day, but it didn't work out. I fell behind academically. It wouldn't hurt to go back to school and see how it goes. If it doesn't go the way you want it too then you can always go back to homeschooling. Its hard to make friends, believe me I know, but once you get out and try you would be amazed at how easy it is.

Hey, I'm also home-schooled, and now that I started doing classes at a high school, kids ask me the same question and it bugs me too. Also, just go with your gut feeling, get out, do some classes and make some friends. Good luck, - Willow

I have kinda the same problem. But i'm absolutely sure i wanna go next year. I HATE IT. If I don't i'll run away. Just tell your parents how you feel. If you are afraid to go because you'll be bullied then if you do tell someone. You could always go back to being home-schooled. The bullies in private schools are worse. And don't listen to that other person that said "What makes you think you're gonna make friends?" of course you will.

I'm repeating next year in 8th again because I was homeschooled and going a regular school and am not ready for high school. Its not social. I have friends, from the homeschool online, but they don't want to hang out with me. I don't know why.
