Is Proscout a scam and a waste of time?
-
Hi! I heard about a proscout free interview, and wanted to know if it was worth going to...? I want to become an actress and have been adviced to by many friends... do you guys think proscout is worth it? If so, any tips? And if you dont think its legit, how should I get started in acting? (: Thanks!!

Answer:
STAY AWAY FROM PROSCOUT. No matter how talented you are, you will probably not be "discovered" at Proscout, and the prices they require after that free interview are, in anyone's mind, a total scam. SO many young people get financially ruined by companies like this, and it really is just not a good idea at all to get involved with them. I obviously do not know you, but no matter who you are I would hate for you to be taken advantage of by this terrible company, because they do it to so many people. I would advise you to acquire an agent--It does not cost a thing until YOU start making money, after which your agent gets a cut. NEVER pay anyone anything upfront--you should not have to pay an agent until they start booking you jobs, after which they get a commission. So look for an agent, take some acting classes, and start going to auditions, which your agent will find for you. Stay FAR away from Proscout!!!

If you don't have years of experience and training, going to any sort of showcase is the worst thing you can do. You are competing against 500-1000 other people, most of which will have been acting since they were kids, and are showing the agents just how unprepared and unqualified you are. You will only have one chance in front of this group of agents, so don't even think of going to any sort of showcase unless you are convinced you have more actual acting experience and better training than the other attendees. You are not being judged on your own talents - you are being compared against everyone else attending The first thing every agent looks at is your experience and training. Before you even arrive at a showcase, the agents have already looked at all of the attendees' resumes and have already put together a short list of those they want to see in the small groups. At any showcase maybe 5% of people may get an agent and 95% go home empty handed. The only people who have a shot are those with years of experience starring in local theatre productions and who have studied at top acting schools
