MOVING TO TORONTO IN 3 MONTHS HELP!?
-
I'm a 16 years old girl who lives in Hong Kong. I'm going to go through my GCSE in a month time, and is moving to Toronto on the 19th of August 2012. I'm seriously scared, I know nothing about French but I know French is a MUST in Toronto's high school. I take first language English in HK, will I go straight to second language English when i arrived Toronto? My accent isn't really local and I do make grammatical mistakes from time to time. Chinese is one of my best subjects now but I know there are no Chinese classes in my upcoming school... The school I am going to go to is called L'Amoreaux Institute, from what I've heard it's a pretty good school for French programs, Is that true? Are students mean in Toronto's highschool? Do they wear make up ALL THE TIME? Is bullying popular? Will I get discriminated because I am the only person alone and have no friends just because I'm new? HELP PLEASE! :'((((

Ok...first you need to calm down!!! It may look bad but you will have a great time. I moved to canada when I was little and I was really scared too but everything was fine. I'm not joking, everyone I met there were sooo nice. Don't worry that you don't know french you will catch up in no time, teachers are there to help you learn not say what u can't do and how bad u are at it?! There will be lots of new students as well as you and I bet some of them won't know much english, never mind french! If your really worried about your french then there are some good websites if you want to learn (if u do go on www.languagesonline.co.uk ) and you will get a lot better at enlish once your their, english grammar isn't hard once you get the feel for it :) You will make friends very quick, and most of them will prob wear make up but that doesn't matter! You could look at the l'amoreaux school website to know more stuff about it :) and no I'm sure they won't be mean, every1 I ever met in toronto was very nice!!!! You will have a great time!! Hope this helped and good luck :)) (not that ya need it :P )

French is only mandatory in Ontario Public schools from grades 4 thru 9 and an option thereafter. Many private schools require it starting from grade 1 thru 9, however, and some on to grade 12. And then, there are French Immersion Schools that teach in French with English as a second languarge. The L’Amoreaux Institute caters to newcomers to Canada, though, so even though they might require it, I am sure that they have a beginner’s course for other teens in your situation. No, students don’t wear makeup all the time at Toronto high schools - some kids do and some don’t. There are often dress clothes with rules about the amount of jewelry or makeup allowed. Bullying has become a big issue in Canada and students participate in anti-bullying programs that bring the students closer together as a group. Every year there are new students at every school - you won’t be the only 16 year old starting in September. Just smile and say hello to to person sitting next to you and I’m sure you’ll gain friends in no time at all.
