Can you study abroad while in medical school?

Can a UK student study in a medical school, if she does her studying in England?

  • I want to study in the US, but for medical school because I plan on becoming a doctor in the U.S. However, I have thought of studying in England. One of my cousin's friends, whose a Canadian and is currently studying in England, said that it would be difficult and less likely to happen. Whereas my other cousin with no experience in England, so I think, says it's easy and that my cousin's wife did so. I honestly don't know whether it's difficult or acceptable that a UK student (i'm actually canadian, but let's say i study in England) does her undergraduate degree in UK or, from what i heard, can go directly into Medical School in England, and then head off to America to either continue to study or become a doctor there. Is this a possibility? And please, suitable answers, I don't want people saying "I don't know", if you don't know, then why would you type. Just saying

  • Answer:

Most US medical schools do not accept international students. http://www.naahp.org/Default.aspx?tabid=2559 And for those that do accept international students: You can't do your undergraduate degree in the UK and get into medical school in the US as you would be unable to take the premed classes. UK degrees are structured differently than US and Canadian degrees. Assuming you did your medical degree in the UK: Your chances of getting to do a residency in the US would be very slim. If you do want to do your medical degree in the UK, it would be best to do your residency in Canada
