Had Picasso used a dark monochromatic or analogous color scheme, the woman's emotion would be perceived as sad and melancholy, while the use of complimentary colors depicts panic and urgency. 3) Line: Face, hair, clothes, background; it's used throughout the entire piece. Since the lines are more angular and geometric than rounded and geometric, they were used for the same reason as the colors- to shock the viewer and draw attention to the piece.
