What are some neat careers in journalism?

What are some high paying careers in the art/humanities and journalism areas?

  • Im interested in artsy type of things and journalism but I know they don't pay that well on average like $45,000 right? Well im looking for something like in $80,000-$100,000? lol

    The main thing is to get going. It is probably best to work in a big corporation first. They will give you training, and you can get into a job you like. You may not like what you are doing for a start - or the money. The market is competitive now, so best to get yourself a job and build up your skill base. Don't worry about the money. It is NOT important when you are starting out. Once you become specialized, the rates will go up. Going into your own business without having a clear plan is VERY risky. It sounds like you are not ready for that - unless you have a mum and dad that are loaded. :)

I've got artist friends in industrial design. They found ways to apply their artistic talent in the corporate world. One is self employed and does pretty well. The other works for Lear Jet, and seems pretty happy designing jet interiors for rich people and corporations. I'm a bit of an artist myself, and have figured out how to apply my creative side to marketing. I like site design, graphics, and creating copy. Just like anything, usually takes a few years to build up to the higher pay ranges. Whatever you choose, stick with it and enjoy it. Good luck

This is a tough question to answer. My answer to you would be to look into startups that need constant writing support and take a percentage of ownership. It would be a great risk, but if you believe in the company, and you are successful (especially with web startups), you could make that amount of money, AND have a stake in a company you help found. Check out the magazine industry; it's one of those places that you can write articles and do the whole decoration and such. As for higher wages, as in many companies, you have to climb your way to the top. But in that industry, with good ideas and writings as well as commitment and hard work, you can make your way up to a pretty damn good job.
