How can I auto run ccleaner on Mac OS X?

Should I update RAM or just get a new computer for Graphic Design?

  • I apologize about the length of this. I've done a lot of research and asked the people that I know their opinions, and it's a lot for me to digest. There are so many options and opposing opinions, and I'm not sure what to do. Problem: I have a four year old Dell Inspiron E1505. It was my high school graduation gift, and I've used it all through college for everything...general education and also for my graphic design projects. At the time, I didn't know any of the specifications of the computer, because it never gave me problems. However, I found out a little less than a year ago that my computer only has about .99 GB of RAM. This wasn't a big deal for me at the time, because it had always worked fine before and was continuing to work fine. Recently, however, my computer has been acting up whenever I open an Adobe program to work on my designs. Option 1: Get a new laptop altogether...this opens up a whole can of worms for me. Since I'm a graphic designer, I've been told that Macs are better to get. However, I do not have the money to buy one. I've been told I should save up, but I'm not sure I can last that long with this crappy computer I have now. I've been using Adobe CS2/4 on this computer for a few years, and until this current slowness problem, I had never had any problems with doing my work on a PC. In my research, I've heard people either say that Macs are superior, or on the other side, that PC's are just as good and that's just designers acting snobby about their Macs. I've also heard that there are pros and cons of each and that it's a matter of preference, and that it's good to know both platforms...in which case, I do. I've been using Macs in school for more than 5 years, and my PC for about 3. I've also heard that it's possible to run a Mac OS on a PC. I'm not sure if this is true or not (my brother, who knows alot about computers, says it can be done, but it's not good for the computer, or something like that), but despite that, I'm leaning heavily towards PC. If I do buy a new one, I'm planning on buying it from Walmart, where I have an employee discount. My brother thinks that this is a stupid move, and I'm not sure if that's just him being snobby and know-it-all-ish, or if it's true. Option 2: Upgrading the RAM. My brother thinks that this won't be worth it in the end. My dad thinks that my computer just needs to be cleaned and upgraded, since it still operates fine until Adobe is opened. He suggested that clean my PC website. I've heard this was a scam, but I found the program CCleaner which does the job. This solution would save me cash right now, but I'm not sure if my brother is right or not and if in the long run it will be better to just buy a new one, since this computer is no longer under warranty, so if it breaks, I'll have to get a new one anyway, and then I'll be out the money that I spent for new RAM. I've looked up my computer, and the maximum upgrade is only about 1 extra GB, which would bring it up to 2 GB of RAM, and I'm not sure if this would be enough for my designs? I also don't know anything about how I would go about upgrading. I'm really just basically confused. Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Answer:

I would suggest get a new laptop due to the fact it is simpler and although i can really make out a price difference it will be a lot easier than taking apart a laptop to put a new CPU unit in. Also when getting a laptop get one online for you can customise it completely from a huge array of things you may want.

Here is the super long answer: If you buy a PC the right way and take care of it, it'll be just as good, if not better for the value, than a Mac. You didn't say what CPU it had, but considering it's 4 years old and only upgrades to 2gb, it seems pretty bad and I can't believe you could get any work done, then again, you might be used to the slowness. I recommend you get a new laptop. Get anything with a Core i5 or i7 if you have the money and AT LEAST 4gb of ram. Also I recommend you DON'T buy from Walmart or any other place, but instead customize the computer online unless you're getting a really good discount. Computers at stores usually have the base configuration and sell at the list price even if it says there's an offer. They sell what's convenient to them, to customers that don't know what they're buying. I would look for coupons online for whatever company you want to buy from, then order a custom CTO (Customized to Order) computer. If you don't find a good enough discount get a refurbished one from the actual company, they should have long warranties, be cheap, and good as new. Now some things to look for and do if you want your new laptop to last more: i5 or i7 processor (not core 2 duo, those are old now) 4gb or more of ram (Sometimes it might be more affordable to get less and upgrade it yourself) SSD drive (This thing will make your computer fast as lightning, but they are expensive and small, and you should upgrade it after you've bought it and check it doesn't void the warranty.) Other things that you might want to get: 300 nit screen (This might be hard to determine unless the manufacturer lists it on their website), backlit keyboards are nice, and maybe a webcam or fingerprint reader. Those are all nice things to have that you can easily get with new computers. Then once you get it, uninstall all the bloatware it'll probably have on it or if you can, reinstall the operating system so it's squeaky clean (I don't recommend this for beginners) then have an anti-virus installed, a registry cleaner, and something for spyware and your new laptop should last quite a long time. Good luck. Feel free to ask any more questions or tell me of something I forgot to answer.
