Law degree and film industry?

How important is a college degree in the film industry?

  • hey, my friend is interested in making films. she's currently enrolled in a 4-year art school in vancouver (emily carr), where she will receive a bachelor's degree in media studies. however, she really loves living in seattle and is considering coming to seattle and attending seattle central community college to get an associates degree in film & video communications. i know that in general a bachelor's degree is more appealing to employers than an associates, but is there any reason to believe that this concept holds true in the film industry?

  • Answer:

A lot of people are trying to get into the film industry. The more education/experience/whatever that you have that sets you above the rest is going to give you the push you need to make it in. Unless you can somehow otherwise prove you've got outstanding talent or do it independently. I'd say it's a good idea to go with the Bachelor's degree.

both of my parents work in the film industry. it is an extremely competitive industry with more people who want to work in it than there are available jobs. while a bachelor's degree is not necessarily a requirement it would definitely be very very helpful.
