Women, what would you do if a guy overheard your e-mail address in a bookstore and e-mailed you?
-
i've asked this in 2 other categories, but would like to get clarity from other women. i have not dated in years (was married forever). i gave my e-mail address to a bookstore clerk, and a man who had just complimented me overheard the e-mail address. when i got home 3 hours later, there was an e-mail waiting that said, "so, if a man overhears your e-mail address at a bookstore and writes to you, would that be stalking;)" i've received mixed feedback from men (everything from "psycho" to "gutsy"). is this bizarre or is this how people "date" these days? he is probably a little older than i am (maybe in his 50's, but was well dressed and articulate)...this has been a few days ago. i have not responded...baffled at whether this is the "norm" for men now. i would have preferred an "in person" conversation, not a "hijacking" of an e-mail address, but maybe i'm on the wrong thought track.

It's kind of creepy. It also means he didn't have the guts to talk to you face to face.

Don't respond. It's very stalky and inappropriate.

"How people date these days" varies enormously from person to person, moreso than it does from time period to time period. I would consider that creepy beyond all reason, and I might take the step of changing my email if someone did that to me. Other people would find it refreshingly gutsy. It just depends on what kind of a person you are, but it does tell you something about what kind of a person this guy is.

Why are women such lemmings? You can decide for yourself what your opinion is of it, can't you?

I'd mark it as spam. What a creeper.

This is my worst nightmare. When cashiers ask for my phone number or email address, I am always afraid some weirdo is going to use it. I hate giving it out and lean in and whisper it. I don't care if he was a "nice" man. He stole your email address. If he was so interested in you, why didn't he ask if he could email you? Or give you his card so you could email him if you were interested?

hmm thats weird. i would say PSYCHO!
