What is the difference between gender inequality and gender discrimination?

Gender discrimination is where, for example, a man who is average at his job gets promoted ahead of a woman who is excellent at her job, because she is a woman. Gender inequality on the other hand refers to a general idea/theory, which is largely thought to be accurate - women are treated as inferior to men in almost all sections of society. there are a lot of sociological arguments relating to this, but there's a brief answer for you. so really, they're quite similar. Gender discrimination is just one part of Gender Inequality.
