What are good social networking sites for teenagers?

Are Social Networking Sites Making The New Generation of Teens Retarded?

  • It seems that with a rise in technology, a rise in annoyance comes with teenagers. Facebook, Myspace, whatever are truly ruining kids now-a-days. It is completely natural to be confused and curious when you are a teen, but now they have other teenagers posting garbage all over the net that adds to their confuse. I look at some of these answers on her about stuff like teen pregnancy, and the answers are from a 17 year old to a 14 year old, trying to "school" them on life since they are "much older" :) I think social networking sites are destroying teenagers. When I was a kid, I had to ask adults for answers, or look at books, not listen to clueless teens on the internet. Everything seems so shallow in these current times, and our kids are growing up just as shallow. Shallowness leads to annoyance. I can't even fathom the idea of bringing a kid into this world because they all seem so stupid and numb. Sometimes, finding things out through experience is a good thing, but now they can just watch videos and live vicariously through other teens they see on the net...its f'in crazy. Anyone agree with this point? Anyone disagree? Please, adults only.

  • Answer:

sorry not an adult, but i'm a teenager, and as the last person said I do have the right to voice my opinion. It's sometimes harder to talk to adults, and rather then not get the answer at all teens turn to the internet. Honestly even in real life I turn to my older friends for help rather then a adult, because its easier to talk to them at the same level. The thing is though, each generation probably says the same thing about the 'new' generation. the generation before you probably thought that your generation was shallow because they thought that you relied on answers from Tv shows. You are stereotyping all teenagers, believe me we are not all shallow. Also the fact that you are using words like retarded is an insult to many people and the fact that your calling all teenagers names like 'retarded' makes your point seem ridiculous.

I'm not an adult, but a teenager. I still want to voice my opinion though :P I agree with you to a certain extent; it's not only social networking sites but also game consoles such as xbox, ps3, psp etc. My brother is so addicted to xBox (playing online) that he doesn't really do anything with his life, it's making him anti-social and also VERY lazy. He expects everything to be done for him.. instead of getting out there and doing things for himself. So, yeah.. they are making teens not 'retarded'.. but lazy and less aware of the real world. But I kind of disagree as sometimes social networking sites can be a good thing. Sometimes you can learn from other peoples mistakes, and you don't really need to experience what they've experienced to realise it's bad. So learning things from other teens is not always a bad thing. And there are many other teens out there who do ask adults, and find information from books.. etc. Stop assuming that all teens are 'clueless'.

Ah, who gives a shyt♥
