What is the culture in China like today?

Why do Western media always bash China's human right without asking Chinese ppl first?

  • It seems the latest uprising in Egypt has Western media talking about China again. They wonder "how soon China will have this happen too". They even interviewed or quoted a very tiny few Chinese ppl from online or elsewhere about how "Democracy has won" or "how happy they are to see it". But the fact is, 95% of Chinese ppl do not care about democracy. The Chinese government has improved the quality of living for millions and most importantly, handed control of China back to the Chinese (got the foreigners out) since taking power. That by itself is enough for most ppl and it has earned its legitimacy for years to come. Actually, Chinese people do not like it when Western media criticize China and this is even more true for the younger generation, who are very patriotic. So it really baffles me why Western media always make it seems the Chinese people are yearning for democracy intensely and is suffering under CCP rule, and can't wait for the Westerners to rescue them like knight on a white horse. It only pisses Chinese off. The CCP sure has problems and Mao definately made mistakes. He wasn't highly regarded as an economist in China for his later failures. But he is still a hero in most people's mind because he made China STOOD UP. Under him, China got unified and foreign powers were driven out. China was able to develop its nuclear weapons and satallite even at a time ppl were starving because that's the price you pay for security. First, you ensure survival of the nation, then you worry about prospering, then you worry about human rights (if at all). The CCP has done a good job in prioritizing things and is now in the prospering stage. Most Chinese are happy and couldn't really care about democracy or not. The fact is, democracy is not necessarily the best mode of government. The West has succeeded in the past due to scientific advancement and technology, not democracy. It all started with Isaac Newton's basic mechanics and then developed further. When the West (British Empire) started overpowering the world, democracy wasn't even heard of. China, on the other hand, is also able to produce geniuses but the Manchu government in the past was weary of the native population gaining too much power and burned a lot of books, and closed itself in the past. China then lost out on the scientific development for 200 years. China today is different because it actively encourages scientific education and cooperation. It's leaders are enlightened enough to know that social stability is important for economic development and that quashing a few dissents is a small price to pay to make most ppl happy. It's leaders all had engineering background rather than lawyers in the US, so they are scientifically oriented and logical, knowing what's the best for the ppl in the long run and know how to get things done, being it high speed rails or clean tech. The US on the other hand, is on a decline simply because democracy has enabled too much stupid people to speak. They voted candidates based on how "handsome" or how "popular" someone is without much regard to qualifications. This can be seen in their youth culture where the sports players get all the glory while the "nerds" aren't popular. Education, especially science education, is underrated when in fact is was the sole reason behind the West's rise. Walk into an American ghetto and see how much hope you have in the country. Sure, China has poor places too but people there concentrate on their studies even in poor places. No guns, no drugs. Talk about human right, I'd much rather walk down anywhere in China at night than some of the places in the US. That's what's wrong with America and why the US is in decline. So I think the US need to get its house in order first before acting all righteous in front of others. Soon, it won't be in a position to do this.

  • Answer:

They(Chinese) do a good enough job on their own. They are usually speaking out for someone jailed over their views,or spaeaking out about the government. You think we should not defend those wrongly imprisoned for the sake of minding our business/lol. Very thoughtless of someone who is free to bash America and our ways. If those freedoms were taken from you ,would you not want someone speaking out for you,or should we just let you rot in jail, for the sake of minding our business? Honest answer.
