How are current gas prices affecting your life?

How much are gas prices really affecting your everyday life?

  • How much is gas in your area?

  • Answer:

The price of fuel isn't really impacting me. As long as I haver a job, nothing has really changed. I'm putting in an extra $40/tank, but all that means is that I have $40 less to spend somewhere else in the economy. So for me personally, its impact is peanuts. But on businesses I frequent, the impact of me not purchasing their goods/services at $40/less per week is most likely hurting them more.

I'm a teacher in Sydney, Australia and have just changed jobs from a school which was an hour's drive away, to one that is closer. The cost of petrol, now $1.67 (Aus) per liter, meant that it no longer paid me to work that far from home. I had worked there for seven years and was very sad to leave my students.

$3.91 for regular unleaded. Gas prices are affecting me a great deal. My grocery bill has gone up quite a bit. Eggs are almost twice what they were. My pet food has gone up $1. Put it all together and I am spending a lot more on everyday items, so I have less spending money for fun stuff.

Louisville, Kentucky - Low grade averages $4.20. You can see prices by ZIP code or State here.... http://www.gasbuddy.com/ I have the type of job where I don't have to drive much, but I've talked with many friends (especially those in sales) and they are trying to do more over the phone & by email. They make fewer face-to-face calls now. In fact, I just had a conversation today with a friend who sells advertising for a local newspaper. She said that her employer had raised her gas allowance, but it was still going to be a week or so before she received the check reflecting the increased pay. So she was making phone calls & working from home this afternoon. The bad thing is the domino effect. The increase in oil/gas prices effects a lot of things...like food costs, heating costs, the price of an airline ticket etc. I own rental property and I have a trash dumpster behind one of my buildings. I'm now paying about $20 more per month than last year because of a "fuel surcharge". The trucks that come to empty the dumpster use fuel. Another example, I'm going on a girls weekend with a couple of friends next week. If we take my car, we will have to fill the tank five times (for the entire roundtrip). At $100 per fill up, that's $500 total. I love to take my car because it's such a comfortable road trip car. However, my friends car costs about $44 per fill-up and only has to be filled up around 3 times for the entire trip ($132). It's a lot smaller than my car, but we're taking hers. We'll just be a little less comfortable and we'll have to take fewer bags.
