What is a good book(s) or websites to use for my research?

  • I am doing an Anthropology project (it's not due until the end of the semester). I am doing my research on the Cherokee Indians. I have to do research on their culture (i.e. marriage, language, art/dance/music, etc), the Trail of Tears, and other aspects. I am having a hard time finding a good book(s) and websites (.gov, .edu, and .org domains only; I will NOT be using wikipedia due to the fact it's not a great source of information) to base my research on. What are some good, reliable websites and books I can use to obtain my research?

Well isn't it against the rules to use wiki as a source? Imo it's definitely one of the most unreliable sources for research. You should use your uni library's anthropological database and also H.R.A.F. Good luck.

The myth that Wikipedia is not a great source of information is totally false. Wikipedia is a great and easy source, for mostly everything. They have monitors and bots confirming the information plus post other sources you can go to. Teachers just hate the fact that it is easy information. With other sources, Wikipedia can be a great source of information. Plus if your teacher doesn't want you to use wiki, I do it anyways and not list it on my bib.

I use wiki as a jumping off point to get background info then go from there. They usually have a pretty good bibliography. I am part Cherokee, though I do not live on the reservation, have you tried to contact them directly? I remember them being really nice when you asked them things about their culture. If you contact them I would advise watching how you reference the trail of tears it is still a bit touch even to this day.

Look up Tahlequah Oklahoma, the Capital of the Cherokee Nation - I am from there and Cherokee Look up the Cherokee Nation Complex and look up Northeastern Oklahoma State University there, they have several areas of study related to indians and good stuff available. Also look up Tsa La Gi - The Cherokee Name for the Cherokee as well as a visitors site by that name outside of tahlequah
