What Is The Difference Between Pointe and Demi-pointe ballet shoes?

• My friend's birthday is coming up, and I want to buy her a new pair of pointe shoes. After browsing through many online ballet shops, I couldn't understand what's the diff between pointe and demi-pointe. & which is better, or which would most ballerinas wear? Thanks!

  If your friend has danced in pointe shoes before, then that is what she should stick to. Demi-pointes are really for ballet dancers who have never used pointe shoes before. They are quite similar to pointe shoes but are softer so they don't support the feet in the same way. I remember using demi-pointes before I was allowed to progress to pointe shoes. It is a way of getting your feet used to the feel of pointe shoes without actually dancing en pointe. I hope that makes some sort of sense!
