How do I become a DJ?

  • I want to become a DJ, but I dont know how to get started... IMPORTANT by DJ I dont mean mixing already made songs and beats... I mean like a real artist, doing my beats from the ground up, and just being an "electronic music artist"

    My best advice: Listen to music. Listen to it all the time, day and night. Pay close attention to all the details that your favorite artists/producers put in, and what makes their songs and productions great. Also, if you can afford to, check out one of the many schools and institutes that offer sound engineering and producer courses. I attended SAE in New York (school of audio engineering) for Audio Technology. They have a special program called "Electronic Music Producer" which will teach you just what you are looking for. I've been producing house music and other electronic music for a while now, I have upcoming releases on various labels and have done remix work and sound design for a number of labels and companies. I also work for Image-Line, the company that makes FL Studio (formerly fruityloops). I suggest you check this software out as it's what I got my start on and has led me to my success. It will take time; it doesn't happen overnight. Just keep at it, and you will find your success. Good luck!

I'm not too sure on this, but if you're in a large city there might be some classes at a music store, and if not then they can probably tell you where to go

If you have the materials that you need, then beg local business, bars, clubs, and party makers to DJ their event. Practice your art and the better you get, the better your rep. Hand out flyer (make them creative) to everyone from bars to schools. Do a freebee in a club. When all else fails, throw a clean Rave.
