What is a good electric guitar for beginning guitar player?

Do you have tips for a beginning guitar player?

  • For Christmas, I am getting a guitar, the Seagull S6 Original. Is there anything I should know before starting lessons? Basic information, vocabulary, chords, tabs, etc. Are lessons even worth it, or should I learn to play on my own? Thanks!

  • Answer:

That's a great guitar and lessons will help a lot. As for chords, tabs and learning, a teacher will help. Here, bookmark this site. There's a lot of info about caring for and restringing your guitar. http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/pagelist.html There are a lot of good sources on the net for learning, but here's some cool stuff from Fender (electric-focused, but the chords, etc., are the same): http://www.fenderplayersclub.com/woodshed/beginners/beginners.htm From Gibson: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Lessons/Search/ Your fingers are going to sting for a bit, but not too long. Mostly, enjoy it.

Great that you are starting with a teacher. The internet is a nice addition, and friends can help, but nothing will get you through the ruff spots like a good teacher. If for some reason you do not think your teacher is doing a good job, find another. Not all teachers are good.
