Would this be a good beginner's cello?

Apart from bach's suites for cello, what are some good songs to play on the cello??

  • i really want to learn how to play the cello except my dad doesn't really want me to because he doesn't think it's a good intrument - does anyone have any good cello songs to recommend me so i can let my dad hear them and try to persuade him yet again please??

    Elgar Cello Concerto Dvorak Cello Concertos Tchaikovsky Roccoco Variations Haydn Cello Concertos Boccherini Cello Concerto Saint Saens Cello Concerto in A minor Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto For a mix with other instruments: Beethoven Triple Concerto (Piano, Violin, Cello) Brahms Double Concerto (Violin, Cello) Get him anything performed by Rostropovich or Yo-Yo Ma. That's pretty safe. My favorite is the Elgar. Amazing piece. The cello is always needed in an orchestra, string quartet, string trio, and most other common ensembles that composers write for. I play the violin, but I always thought the cello was more expressive. Plus, you get to sit when you play. Good choice!

Notable works you must know are the cello concertos by Dvorak, Elgar, Schumann, Lalo, and Saint-Saens. Also, very lovely is Variations on a Rococo Theme by Tchaikovsky.. A wonderful sonata for cello and piano was written by Chopin. You might find interesting studying about the wonderful cellist Jacqueline Du Pre, who had a short and tragic life, but left behind a precious and amazing history of recordings. Be sure to listen to her incredible recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto. Hope to hear from you. . . .
