How to get over stage fright?

  • Well, I take a theater class. I get stage fright SO bad in there. Like in any other class I only get a little stage fright, like if I have to give a report in front of the class. But in theater my stage fright get worse by like 1000%! I know that's what theater is, getting in front of people, blah blah. But that's the reason I took it. To get over stage fright. But for the time being I'm just terrified. Any suggestions as to how to get over it?

    it sounds like you are putting extra pressure on yourself - what helps me is to simply tell myself positive comments the night before and the morning you wake up. Almost imagine yourself doing it when you lay in bed and imagine that you are confident and enjoy it. Remember NO ONE is perfect and even the best people have made many mistakes and still do Im sure you will do fine - its ok to laugh at yourself - people who can laugh at themselves live longer happier lives I am no pro but I guarantee you - your not the only one in the class with these thoughts wish you the best

Don't think about it so much, just do it. The anticipation is all that is freaking you out. They are not there to judge you as a person. They are going to judge your performance. So just go out there and give them a great show and they'll love ya. Good luck :)

If you're doing theatre - unless it's improvisation - this means you're playing a role. So try to make it about the role, not yourself. Let's say you're playing Juliet (from Romeo and Juliet) - try to be Juliet and imagine how she would feel, when she speaks to Romeo. You'll get so immersed in trying to think and feel like her, you'll forget all about being nervous. Plus it makes for a convincing performance.
