Where can I find a good monologue for my audition?

Where can I find a great monologue from the Sound of Music for an audition?

  • I am auditioning for the "Sound of Music" at my civic theater during the summer. I want to nail the audition. I desperately want to be cast. I want to start practicing now. I am going to buy the movie to learn every note of every song, but I am at a loss for what monologue to do? Are there any monologues in the Sound of Music? Has anyone here auditioned for it and if so what did YOU do.

  • Answer:

As a theater veteran I can tell you do NOT use a monologue from the play you're auditioning for. You may give one interpretation and the director have something entirely different in mind, costing you the audition. Also, don't sing any song from the score... again they may have something totally different in mind. By all means familiarize yourself with the story and the songs. If you're going to learn the songs, keep an open mind. Songs for films are frequently edited from the stage versions, so things may be different. For a challenge, try harmonizing with the melody instead of singing the melody.

I memorized the whole movie. Seriously. I can recite it to this day. I found you the script online, though. Here's the link: http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/s/sound-of-music-script-transcript.html I did NOT check it for accuracy... Good luck!
