This is my proposal (I really love my idea and I think its a very smart choice). First of all, you need books....lots of them.... of course the books have to be according to your target..... for example 10 year olds.... next, you need a trailer or someting similar..... the idea is a driving library...... last, you pick a school (after the director accepts your visit) you go to the school grounds and allow children (limited amount at a time) to go inside and pick books and read for a while..... The overall idea is to open their eyes to the world of books.... when they go back home, they are supposed to ask their parents to either buy them that book they began reading or take them to the library to spend some time reading books..... I think that the idea of going to the schools will surprise kids and once you have their attention, you take advantage of the opportunity to show them how much fun reading can be..... they can read and share stories.....maybe the local library will even help you with this idea by making flyers as bookmarks with the library address and stuff like that......

Go to your local library and ask them how they got started, or ask RIF, that might help you out too.

Check out www.meetup.com. You specify a city and an interest (i.e. reading certain types of books), and anyone can join. If you're the organizer, the group can be structured the way you want it to be. I'm in local groups for yoga, taoism, consciousness, metaphysics, wine and dining out. Enjoy!

i don't know but i would really be interested. maybe talking to a librarian, see if they can help. i use to work as a library aid, and i organized fundraisers to go on a trip to schlitterbahn every year for the library youth volunteers. contact me when you have something.

What about trying to get with an organization that already exists? Literacy Volunteers of America is great, and Wally Amos has an organization as well. The links are below. My family works with both of them, and they are great!! Good luck and thanks for your efforts!!

You can start small like us here in the office we have its called BABE. We share emails on good books to read and lend books to each other. You can also start in your local library which will be good esp for kids who don't like reading anymore. If ever you will start one on the net, count me in!
