I'm trying to find an allied graveyard/war memorial in northern France which contains 4 german graves?

  • When I was younger I went on a school History trip to northern France. We visited a few graveyards and war memorials. The one in question was quite large. It had a traditional graveyard and at the back was a huge wall naming soldiers whose graves were unknown. The interesting thing was 4 german graves in the middle of the graveyard. They were buried where a german machine gun post had been. They were buried there by the allies as a mark of respect as they had held out for quite a length of time. I just can't remember the name of it.

  • Answer:

I have given you 3 web sites that are all about the German War graves in France. You might be able to recognise something when you are looking through the sites.

Tough one, it might be one of the Somme cemeteries. Or Toronto Cemetery at Demuin (but that's not very big). Maybe the Brandhoek New Military Cemetery. I'm not really sure, but this will give you somewhere to start.

Try this link, there are 12 Germans buried here. http://www.ww1cemeteries.com/ww1frenchcemeteries/dantzigalley.htm
