Where can i find out who lived/died in a house?
-
Ok. I Know that this sounds crazy, but in my grandfathers house there has been a few sightings of the same spirit/ghost [whatever you want to call it] (I myself have seen it twice) and there has been many times that people have heard odd noises. or someone opening a door when no one is there. So, can someone please tell me a website that will let me see who lived and or died in this house?

Answer:
If you go to your city archives there should be some info in there (it's usually opened to the public) go to your city hall and they will tell you

Calling your local Prothonataries office can give you clues as to owners of a property, also studying Censuses ( which are available online as long as they are at least 50 years old). Also it is public record, if you have names to go by to view death and birth records of individuals who were born died at least 50 years ago, and of course depending on how old or how long you want to go back, you can micro fish obituaries as well as contact a historical society in your area.

Well, it's not going to tell you who lived and died there precisely, but you might try the county assessor's website. Usually, you can search by owner name or address. That should give you the owner before your grandfather moved in. Otherwise, you can go to the Register of Deeds and look through the history of the people that owned the house. My guess is if you search back through the newspapers around the dates of the property transfers for articles concerning the names of the past owners, you'll find the answer. You can always just google the names for anything during the past twenty years.

The only way I would think is to ask the government from the census. You can google, say "1950 census records" and a government site will come up. This will only work for increments of 10 years (1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and so on). You can then download the information you need. It is an enormous database, however. Each file is about a 100mb of words (which is huge! Most word documents are under a megabyte.). It could possibly be over a thousand pages of information, depending on how much is crammed onto one page. Download that, look through it is all I can say.
