What was life like in the 1980's?

I get really jelous of my father cos he lived in the 80s lol. When I watch 80s television shows like, top of the pops! There seemed to be more people enjoying themselves unlike todays society. 80s had the best comedy like, only fools and horses etc. Including classic films like, dirty dancing.

Answer:
I recall it was a very optimistic period. It seemed that increasing prosperity was considered normal. There were social upheavals but with hindsight it has become obvious to all but the most dyed in the wool socialists that they were necessary. The 1970s seemed to be fairly dull after the carefree 1960s and the 1980s certainly laid the foundation for our current society while the momentum slowed in the 1990s and drift set in while the noughties under Blair/Brown were just a disaster waiting to happen. Unlike the present day when there seems to be no end to the current recession in sight, the recession in 1988 caused by the excesses of the 1980s was considered to be a temporary phenomenon and everyone could see a brighter future at the end of it. Yes, by and large it was an optimistic decade not equalled before or since..

In America it was a very patriotic time. Reagan seemed to inspire hope in most of the people. It was also a time of fear though. The West considered the Soviet Union a very threatening enemy and nuclear annihilation was a spectre of fear for everyone. The music was great, it was very fun and optimistic for the most part. I think most Americans looked forward to good times ahead.

It wasn't all good, much of the TV was stayed and overated, Parkinson, The two ronnies and this is your life come to mind as really bad shows that only existed as there was so little compatition, there was only 4 channels and 2 of them were not often airing decent programes. TV actually stoped at about 100 am
I was a teenager in the 80's. It was probably just better for me because of the fact I was a teenager. But seems like to me we kids were outside more. We worked first and then played. Now days you hardly see a kid outside, let alone actually doing anything. That's why when I see a kid mowing a lawn I always give them a thumbs up. As far as the tv shows you mentioned, I can't comment on them because I didn't watch much tv as a kid. I would spend all my free time on the basketball court at MY park. Because of Reganomics most people were poor like today. Even though they had jobs, unlike today, our parents didn't get paid very much.
