Gandhi's approach vs. the approaches in the late 1850's?

  • I am doing a history day project and my teacher said: "Awesome topic, looking at the methods of Gandhi's approach vs. the approaches in the late 1850's will be great! You are free to start working on this. While Gandhi is amazing focus on the revolutionary approaches the reaction from people in India (and globally) and the reform or change that occurred. Great topic i'm very excited to see what you come up with. :) When she said Gandhi's approach vs. the approaches in the late 1850's what approaches in the late 1850's was she talking about???? Any other ideas for my project would be great! Thanks

  • Answer:

I think (if you are American) that she is speaking of civil rights and ending slavery without an unconstituional war, but I"m not sure. It might be easier to add an imagined Gandi to the Israeli Palestine conflict. Make him Palistinean. I don't know why she mentioned the 1850s specifically because it makes no senese. Perhaps she thinks that cultures have evolved since then??? If so, she is deluded because look around. In the U. S. we have military troops around teh world, just as England had in India. We learned nothing from Gandi. We learned more about how to manipulate people from hitler than we learned how to respect people from Gandi.
