How do I conduct a successful Fantasy Football draft?
-
I have a fantasy football league with 8-10 family members that we've been running for a few years now. We generally use the Yahoo Sports Draft online to select our teams, but this year we're going to draft in person and add in our selections afterwards. I have never conducted a draft in person before and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on time limits for picks, displaying choices, and generally how to make this a success.

Answer:
Hold your draft at place where you can all kick back and have a drink or two. Go htrough baout five rounds or so and then take a break order some food. My league usually picks names out of hat a month before the draft to see where everyone picks at. We hold ours at a local resturant sports grill type place and reserve a room with plenty of seating and space. We have a two minute time limit on picks, when someone is on the clock the commishner of our league will state that so and so is on the clock. They will call out their selection. We print up a roster form and a pick by pick selection form to write down everyone that has been drafted(we also have a five dlooar charge to anyone who trys to select a player that has already been picked. Good luck.

1. Make sure your family members are serious. They have to pay attention and actually care about the draft for it to be successful. I would refrain from turning on the TV, or having other activities nearby. If people pay attention, the draft will be more enjoyable, and they will not take 5 minutes for each pick, all the while trying to figure out who has been picked and who is still available. 2. Time limits usually don't work. You can't really enforce it, especially in person. The best way is to make sure everyone is paying attention. 3. Have draft sheets available, in order of ranking or whatever, and make sure you have multiple copies. Have one main copy for everyone so that people can keep track of who have been picked already and which players are still available. 4. Be prepared yourself and good luck.

I've done this many years in a row with my family also, the best way we've used in my opinion is just to get a stop watch, and have my little sister time our picks with a stop watch. We usually use 1-1.5 minute limits for picks, then we just use a white board to write who picked who and in what round. Good Luck.

CBS Sportsline used to sell a draft kit (cheap) that was a big board you hung up. It came with all the players names on stickers and you put them up as they were drafted. It also came with blanks for less popular players. You could probably make something yourself like that very cheap. As for time limits, our live draft doesnt have one. That way we have time to heckle and hound the guy drafting. The longer they take to make a bad pick makes it that much more fun to rib them! Just make sure you print out some draft sheets and postion lists for those who dont come prepared... otherwise they WILL take forever. Most important... have fun.

This will be my 3rd year doing a live draft with the family. We just added 2 more players to make it 8.So one of them would proablably select brett favre with his first pick and the other, proablably would trade away all of his picks for first rounders. any way, my league never did this, but GET A DRAFT BOARD, even if it costs 30 bucks, have everyone chip in. It will help keep track of whos pick and whos been drafted and everything. also, bring food, for the people who .would rather play around in between picks than prepare. finally, help everybody out unless it starts to get annoying.like if someone asks what week the Falcons have a bye, help him out.But if he starts asking stuff like"what team did so and so play for or is he injured And remember to always have fun.

its always good to have a time limit so it keeps things moving its the difference between haveing a 4 hour draft or a 1.5 to 2 hour draft. usually give them 1 to 2 min on there pick. get a draft board such as a white board it always helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And always just have a fun time

okay. its simple. in the first two rounds get yourself a solid running game. running backs touch the ball over 200 times a year, so they are your foundation for a solid team. The only quarterback that should ever be taken in the first two rounds is Peyton Manning. In the third round grab yourself a solid WR. In the fourth and fith rounds look at a QB and a another solid WR. Now, QB is a break or make position in fantasy leagues. You dont always have to get the best QB, but make sure you get one that you can count on. The rest is pretty much best available. Good luck
