Is there more luck involved in fantasy football than in fantasy baseball or basketball?

um, i can't agree. i find football to be the MOST predictable of fantasy sports because so much of a players' performance is based upon his team (system/o line/if he starts, splits time, etc). If a player gets a full time starting role in a good system its automatic. Baseball I find to be more of a crap shoot: Explain Jon Garland winning 16 last year and sucking eggs this year. Explain Freddy Sanchez' emergence from the Boston minor league system. Pitchers are totally unpredictable. Don't tell me you guessed Glavine would be dominant this year, or that Brad Penny would start the all star game. On the other hand, football's only variation/surprises come from injuries. besides that you know who's gonna be good. If a player plays against a weak D its easy to guess his #s.

I have played all three as well and I would say the luck factor is across the board for them all. The key to winning these leagues is to pick the sleepers. Yes there is some luck involved but it also takes common sense to know when to drop a player and when to pick someone up.

I'm unimpressed by fantasy basketball. I thought it was too much a luck factor because injury played too key a role or the coach would give the player a night off without warning and so you start him for nothing. I like football the best actually. I'm in two leagues. I enjoy hawking the waivers for gems and seeing what trades can be made. Like right now I've picked up Ron Dayne and Cedric Benson as developmental players / trade value. The guy who drafted Tatum Bell or Thomas Jones as a starter has got to be worried right now and may need to give up something good to protect them. Injury plays a role here too but then a savvy manager should be able to find the replacement player and because the season is short, players may decide to tough out an injury and still play.

There is definitely more luck in fantasy football than in the others. You could have a great draft based on knowledge and have your team decimated by injuries. Over the course of a baseball season, this is going to happen too, but with football there are only 16 games in a regular season, or 13 in a fantasy season before the playoffs, and if your first round pick gets injured you're toast. PLUS in baseball and basketball the scoring is usually different. In football, a head to head victory counts as one, and it's the luck of the draw who you go up against every week. How many times is the guy with the most total points not the leader as far as record goes? PROOF POSITIVE: Last year, I was in two football leagues. I won one of them, and missed the playoffs in the other. Luck. I'm always close to the top of the fantasy baseball leagues I'm in. Skill.

I have no experience with Fantasy basketball - but no question that more luck than skill goes into football than baseball. Baseball is much deeper; usually starting 18-23 players per week compared with 8 in a typical football league. There are legitimate sleepers in baseball every year; there's minor leagues and prospects which football doesn't have - and injuries play a much larger role in football than baseball (though pitchers do often get injured). The big difference is opportunity - in baseball, if your 2B goes down, his replacement will get AB's but he's not necessarilly going to be any good. In Football, if you're RB goes down, his replacement (esp. in systems like Indy and Denver) could have years every bit as good as the player he replaced. Even the draft order has a much bigger impact - especially this year. It doesn't take skill to pull #1 out of a hat and get Larry Johnson. LJ will likely give you 40% of your team's total every week. In baseball, if I draw #1 and take Pujols - MAYBE, he gets 10% of your team's total points. Luck is a big part of football.
